In June 2026, the Preparatory School at Tishk International University (TIU) organized a workshop entitled “Enhancing Speaking Activities in Foundation Courses through Interactive Learning.” The workshop aimed to enhance the quality of foundation English courses by equipping language instructors with practical, student-centered speaking activities that promote students’ confidence, fluency, communication skills, and active classroom participation.
The workshop featured a session entitled “Speaking Topics of Own It 1 & Own It 2 Books,” which was organized and presented by Dr. Kenan Kapukaya, Ms. Mardin Sadraddin, Ms. Liva Adil Shareef, and Ms. Zainab Nizar. During the session, the presenters demonstrated a variety of engaging speaking tasks and interactive techniques based on the Own It 1 and Own It 2 coursebooks used in the Foundation Program. Participants explored practical strategies for integrating pair work, group discussions, role plays, classroom movement, and short communicative speaking activities into their daily lessons.
The workshop emphasized the importance of communicative language teaching and encouraged instructors to dedicate the final minutes of each class to meaningful speaking practice. Through the exchange of innovative teaching ideas and classroom experiences, participants gained valuable approaches to creating more interactive and learner-centered lessons.
The workshop contributed to the professional development of language instructors and reinforced the Preparatory School’s commitment to delivering high-quality English language education. By encouraging active participation and effective communication, the initiative supports students in developing stronger speaking skills and greater confidence in using English in academic and everyday contexts.
